Everyone who have been there will agree that being a teenager can be tricky to say the least – and today’s teens seem to have an increasingly complex range of issues to get their heads round. The scary word of social media means that they are constantly drawn into an environment of continual comparisons leading to self-doubt, negative body image and stress. Throw in a dose of school pressures, exams, relationships and hormones and most of us would agree that today’s teenagers must feel like they are living in a minefield…Yoga could be the perfect antidote.
Learning to breathe property is great for reducing stress, helping to draw us back into the here and now, thus shutting down the pointless mental chatter: “Am I clever/slim/pretty/funny/lively enough” and “what is he/she thinking? Have I done something to offend him/her” etc.
Asana or postures can build strength and improve fitness in teens whom are not drawn to the rough and tumble of traditional sports. Conversely, it improves flexibility and balance in sporty types who are already feeling the pull of tight hamstrings and stiff shoulders.
