Over the years, I’ve introduced yoga to people from all walks of life, including those living with a wide range of physical and mental health conditions.
We all know that injuries can happen, and things like knee or hip replacements can sometimes make regular exercise more challenging. Getting up and down from the floor isn’t always comfortable or appropriate either.
That’s where chair yoga can be very helpful.
Chair yoga uses a stable, active seated position, so you can feel safe and supported while still getting the benefits of yoga. We can work on building strength, improving flexibility and mobility, and easing everyday aches and discomfort — all without having to get down onto the floor.
And then there’s the breath…
Managing stress, anxiety and a busy mind is a huge part of life. Breathwork is at the heart of every class I teach. Once you learn how to befriend your breath, it can become a very powerful tool.
By understanding how to breathe more effectively and learning a few simple techniques, you can start to change the way your body and brain respond to stress. These are skills you can take with you into everyday life.
My clients use breathing techniques for all sorts of situations: before hospital appointments or scans, sitting in heavy traffic, during a stressful moment at work, or when standing on the first tee or stood over an important putt! Your breath really can be your best friend. And the lovely thing is, you always have it with you.
